Crafts Made in Bourj Hammoud

Crafts made in Bourj Hammoud

This retrospective draws an expressive and thoughtful picture of craftsmen in Bourj Hammoud, and initiates a cultural debate that rethinks the essence of crafts and their social foundations. The art of city making in Bourj Hammoud is an art of Armenian craftsmen who used their manual knowledge to recreate their homeland, integrate the Lebanese society, and preserve their unique identity all at once.

Qrayeh Rural tourism strategy

Qrayeh Rural tourism strategy

The strategy outlined in this document follows the invitation of Nahnoo Ngo to elaborate an action plan in the frame of the UNDP project on social cohesion and economic development in the Qrayeh village. The project aims to work on building up the rural tourism sector in the village throughout a participative process that gathers the local community including the residents, the municipality members, the church representatives and various actors from the civil society and faithbased organizations. The goal of the report is to assess the prospects for rural tourism in the village and deliver an action plan to raise the village profile as an attractive destination for rural-tourism in Lebanon. On the long run, if successful, the project will affect a driving economic factor by creating new-employment opportunities: the family income.

Reimagining Tarik Jdideh

This brochure exemplifies our attempt to address this issue in a participatory manner in the context of city development, by sampling the aspirations of the residents of Tariq El Jdideh and linking them to our personal analysis of the area and the solutions we propose. Our team consists of 15 young men and women from Beirut, who are connected in one way or another to the Tariq Al Jdideh area, either because they lived there at some point and because they are a frequent visitor.

Lebanese Craftsmanship insights for policymaking

Lebanese Craftsmanship insights for policymaking

Since 2018, NAHNOO’s research proposes to counter the lack of visibility and public awareness while pushing for significant inclusion in the local cultural policy enhancing Bourj Hammoud’s worth as a multicultural Lebanese scene that is worth preserving thus protecting it. After a pilot research on 15 craftsmen in 2018, we decided to upscale the sampling and the research work for policymaking purpose.
A mapping of 51 artisans Bourj Hammoud, looking at the challenges they face and the opportunities that exist for developing intangible cultural heritage in the area.
