The two areas – Mar Mikhael and Achrafieh – were mapped by a team of volunteers following a close-ended survey (multiple choice, yes/no, etc.) to gather morphological information on the buildings constituting the urban fabric.

This report is prepared by RPS MENA, who were engaged by NAHNOO Organization to conduct an economic study regarding the “articulating the economic value of the crafts-based industry in Lebanon” project, in the context of NAHNOO’s work to promote and protect the crafts and craftsmanship in Lebanon within its Cultural Heritage program in Lebanon.

This retrospective draws an expressive and thoughtful picture of craftsmen in Bourj Hammoud, and initiates a cultural debate that rethinks the essence of crafts and their social foundations.

The project aims to work on building up the rural tourism sector in the village throughout a participative process that gathers the local community including the residents, the municipality , the church and various actors from the civil society.

This brochure exemplifies our attempt to address this issue in a participatory manner in the context of city development, by sampling the aspirations of Tariq El Jadida residents.
